How We Met

It's complicated...

Jacob & I had lots of connections it's hard to narrow down how we really knew each other first! We went to school together first & foremost. Our brothers were friends in school, so we both knew of each other first through them. I remember a time when my dad, Gerald, asked "isn't there a Crawford boy you can date?!" At the time Jacob and I didn't really know each other. I remember rolling by eyes and thinking "whatever, Dad!" Turns out Dad knew what he was talking about the whole time. We became friends through FFA and mutual friends, but we didn't really become friends until I started to visit him at Hatcher's for milking and group hangouts with Jacob and his cousin Tyler.

How We Started Dating

"He's not my boyfriend..."

When everything closed down for covid, I would go hangout with Jacob while he milked at Hatcher's. He would repay me with dinner- usually at Chickfila or Nachos Mexican Restaurant. This continued throughout the summer before I headed to Mississippi for college. The next summer I came back from college & started going to milk and hangout with Jacob again. At this point everyone knew but us and we still denied the title of "dating" throughout the whole summer of seeing each other every day. Finally, the night before I left for my second year of college he asked me to be his girlfriend. We visited each other and dated long distance for two years until I graduated and moved home in May of 2023.

The Proposal

November 17, 2024

It started as a regular Sunday for us, 8:00 church & breakfast at First Watch. We usually hang around and watch a movie after church, but instead we went to lunch & shopping - I should've know something was up when Jacob said we could go to whatever stores I wanted. It turns out he was trying to keep me distracted while he waited for his plan. Later, Jacob took me to their family's farm to take photos of the cattle - my favorite Sunday afternoon activity. When we got to the farm, we rode a four wheeler up the hill. Jacob got off and was telling me how if I stood exactly where he was I could see how the grass was coming up. I could see it from where I sat on the four wheeler and couldn't figure out why he was being so weird. We moved so I could get different photos. He got off again and was pacing back and forth saying it was getting chilly. Finally I got off the four wheeler for a photo & turned around to see Jacob on one knee asking me to marry him. I jumped up & down asking if he was serious about a thousand times. It turned out he had just been trying to get me off the four wheeler the whole time. I was shocked & on the way back down the hill to the truck I had to ask if I had even said yes. Jacob said I hadn't - I had just asked if he was serious. Of course I said yes!
