Our Story

I met Angie on Hinge. While I originally thought I might meet someone who lived in Brooklyn, I had no idea how to use the search radius feature on Hinge. As a result, I ended up finding the most adorable little Italian in all the land -- a cool 87 miles away. I was a little out of sorts at the time. I'd lost my dad just 9 months before and hadn't been on a first date, since I knew how to do things like properly set a search radius on an app. But almost instantly I realized I'd found a human who made me feel 8 years old again (which was a good age for me, because I hadn't quite yet wound up in the Pretty Plus section of the Sears). By our third date, I asked her to please never date anybody else, again, swearing she had to be divine intervention from my father. Now I'd like to ask her that same question again, in front of you all. I hope you can join us. <3

Although many know Gretchen as the elegant one and talented writer, I’m going to “shoot my shot” too—because our story is about stars aligning, laughter, and souls finding home. We met on Hinge in 2024. The distance made her casual, “Maybe we’ll meet for a drink” seem unlikely—but I wasn’t giving up. I said, “Let’s make it a date,” and thank goodness I did. Our first try was snowed out (probably for the best, given my driving skills), but soon after, on a sunny Saturday, she walked into the diner…and I swear the world stopped. Her smile, her eyes, her everything—just wow. Then she handed me mini flowers—the fastest way to my heart. After lunch, we went go-karting like joyful 8-year-olds (yes, she won). We laughed until our cheeks hurt, and I knew I never wanted the day—or her—to end. Two days later was date two, and I haven’t let her go since. Since then: holidays, road trips, job wins, birthdays, a very old house, ball games, even cancer—followed by a clean bill of health. Through it all, we’ve chosen love, laughter, and the magic of “us.” Meeting Gretchen—and loving her in a way more magical than I dreamed—made every step worth it. Now I get to celebrate us with all of you, and I couldn’t be more excited—here’s to the next 45 years!
