Sometimes the most beautiful love stories begin in the most unexpected ways. We met in Japan during his deployment. Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a fairytale first impression — he actually ran me out of the bar! Definitely not your typical “how we met” story. But love has a funny way of rewriting first impressions. A week later, he asked me out on a proper date. And that’s when everything changed. What started as an unexpected second chance turned into something real. The more we dated, the more I realized he actually wasn’t so bad after all. Somewhere between the laughter, late-night talks, and getting to know each other, we found something special. Then one day, he said it first. “I think I love you.” I smiled and teased him — “You think?” But the truth was… I already knew. When deployment ended, our story didn’t. Instead, it stretched across oceans. For a year, we loved each other long-distance — navigating time zones, late-night calls, countdowns to visits, and the ache of goodbyes at the airport. It wasn’t always easy, but it was always worth it. Love became intentional. Communication became everything. And every reunion felt like magic. I visited him in the United States and met his family, stepping into his world with nervous excitement. And then he did something that meant everything to me — he traveled all the way to the Philippines to meet my family. Watching him embrace my culture, sit with my loved ones, and make the effort to know where I come from made me realize… this was my forever. Eventually, I made the biggest leap of faith. I moved from Japan to Louisiana to build a life with him. Then, during another TDY ( Work Trip) our story came full circle. On January 17, 2026, at Magic Island in Hawaii, with the sun setting over the ocean, he got down on one knee. From being “run out of a bar” in Japan… to saying yes at sunset in Hawaii… Our love has been anything but ordinary — and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Forever starts now. 💍🌅
