How We Met

circa 1998

We met at Rich Central High School sometime between 1996 and 1998 (our memories have failed us, we are old). We do however, remember the witty banter we shared during gym class. Per Broderick, he remembers a "certain sparkle" in my left eye. I remember his essence being that of one of the good guys. Fast forward 20 years and he was all "in my DM's". (Ha!) Because of this essence that stuck with me I agreed to go on a date with him in October of 2020. (Whether or not that first meeting was a date is debatable, however when he walked through the door in my mind it was a date!)

The Proposal

11/12/22

Unbeknownst to me, Broderick's mother's birthday celebration was also my proposal. My charismatic, loving, and thoughtful fiancé had arranged in advance with the Chef and entertainment at the venue to work in the proposal. The singer (KB Evans) was getting people in the audience involved in her lively performance. She then asked if there were any men that could sing. Broderick volunteered and went up on the stage. The Booth family table was all smiles watching Broderick on stage. What a treat! He started singing my girl and KB asked who he was singing to and he pointed to me! I felt like the luckiest girl on the planet! They then switched to Just My Imagination and KB prompted Broderick to leave the stage to serenade me. It had always been a fantasy of mine to be serenaded so I was already in heaven. Tears of joy had already began to form in the corners of my eyes. I dropped my phone in my lap as he approached me so that I could fully be in the moment. All eyes were on us but it was like it was just the two of us in the room. As he was serenading me he got down on one knee. I was apparently in some sort trance because it hadn't dawned on me what this iconic one knee pose was foreshadowing. He departed from the temptation lyrics to say, "It's not my imagination anymore baby, will you marry me?" Still in a trance I said yes as in "of course you know I want to marry you." And then he pulled the ring out which knocked me back to reality and I realized that this was it! This was the moment I had been waiting for! I was being proposed to by the man of my dreams!
