During World War II, it even served as a naval hospital. It's been said that not all the patients have left... The hotel’s haunted reputation is well-earned. Guests and staff have reported flickering lights, phantom footsteps, perfume lingering where no one’s been, and elevators moving on their own. A spirit in housekeeping has been known to unpack suitcases upon guests’ arrival. The scent of cigar smoke sometimes curls through the lobby, perhaps from Walter Devereaux himself, the hotel’s original owner. A ghostly woman is said to watch over sleeping men in room #661. And another room, once the site of a tragic love triangle and murder, is reported to be so active it was sealed off for good.
