The Proposal

We traveled to Key West to enjoy some much-needed rest and relaxation on the beach. Our last day there was 6/21/20- the summer solstice, her grandfather's birthday, and father's day. All of those occasions aligned to make the date seemingly hand-selected by the Universe as THE day. Truth be told, the morning got off to an inauspicious start as we both nursed the effects of a night on Duval Street. Once recovered, Angaeli and I ventured out for a "treat yo self" spa day. With Angaeli's hands manicured and ready for proposal photos, we set out for a walk at sunset with ring in tow and sweaty palms to boot. While venturing out to the pier, I scanned the shoreline and found what appeared to be the perfect sunlit, remote location on Smather's Beach, a rock formation that extended out into the ocean. Each action to get to the proposal spot seemed to increase my heart rate, but when others cleared off the rock formation as we approached, almost as if they knew the romantic and private occasion that was about to take place, I was reassured that this time at this location was indeed the perfect spot to ask Angaeli to be my wife. Having carefully walked out on the precarious rocks, I allegedly said "Im going to play our song now". I say allegedly because with all of the thoughts rushing through my head- I seemingly lost control of the filter between mind and mouth and was thinking aloud. I selected our song, "Here on Out" by The Dave Matthews Band, and within the first couple of notes, I got down on one knee, and through misty eyes, quivering lips, and constricted throat I asked Angaeli if she would be my wife from here on out. To my eternal delight and honor, she said ,"yes of course".
