Alexis and Joe met during their freshman year of college at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. They lived in the same dorm hall and one day Alexis went to the basement of the dorm to print a paper for class. When she was down there, she saw Joseph and a few others playing video games. She asked to join them and from there they slowly became friends and eventually grew feelings for one another. They officially started dating on October 3rd, 2016.

Alexis and Joseph were arriving in Willams Bay after a 15-hour car ride from New Jersey. Joseph made a stop at Yerkes Observatory and when he parked he said, "Get out". Alexis was confused and asked why, but Joseph did not respond. As they got out of the car, a worker from the observatory came out and told Joseph that he could not park there. Joseph told him that he only needed a moment and that once he was done, they would leave. Alexis got out of the car and waited by the passenger car door while Joseph was rummaging through the trunk. As he walked towards Alexis, she looked down and noticed a small box in his hand. Joseph approached her and standing on both legs said, "So babe.. Will you marry me?".
