To celebrate the fusion of cultures, the day will have both Indian and Western ceremonies. The Lagna (Hindu wedding ceremony) is a sacrament contained within the Vedas (Ancient Hindu Scriptures), from the Vedic Period, which the historians place between 3000 – 5000 B.C. The Lagna is a deeply meaningful and symbolic set of rituals which not only unite the souls of the Bride and Groom but also creates an everlasting bond between their families. These celebrations will be followed by a delicious Indian lunch. In the afternoon the civil ceremony will be held, led by Louis' friend and mentor Maureen "Mo" Meredith. This will be a celebration of us and our journey, with funny and heartfelt stories told by those closest to us. Here we will make our personal vows to each other, and exchange rings. In the evening the reception will be held, with an abundance of food, drinks, music and dance.
We are getting married on Louis' family farm and home "Yagga Yagga" in Talbot Brook, near York, Western Australia. When Liz and Brian first saw this piece of land, they noted how quiet and serene the little valley was - thus naming the property Yagga Yagga meaning "quiet place" in Aboriginal language. Growing up here amongst the olive trees, sheep, horses, alpacas and dogs was fundamental in shaping Louis into the person he is today, and the farm holds a special place in both our hearts.
