In this day in age there are so many ways to meet your special someone, through a sports league, through friends, via a number of dating apps, even in the metaverse! Our story begins the way many others have for millennia, at a local watering hole. Specifically, the story begins at Icenhauer’s on Rainey Street on a crisp Thursday evening in January 2017. Sarah, ever the study/couch creature, was busy building a nest of blankets on the couch when her roommate (and maid of honor) Nina burst in and decided that this type of behavior was unbecoming of a beautiful young and single PhD candidate. At Nina's direction, Sarah began to get ready for one of the best Thursday traditions known to UT graduate students, the weekly McCombs Think-n-Drink. Around the same time Andy was also settling into his couch, sulking as his beloved Pittsburgh Penguins seemed all but destined to lose to the Bruins. At the urging of his pal, Ankush, who famously never missed a Think-n-Drink, Andy decided it was best to let bygones be bygones and focus on having a great night. Having not done laundry in some time, Andy grabbed the first clean T-shirt he could find, a Lehigh EMS shirt, a decision which turned out to be a most fortuitous one. Ankush, being the social butterfly that he is, already knew 98.76% of the first year MBA class. When he bumped into Nina and Sarah, he promptly directed Andy to her roommate, Sarah. Sarah was immediately intrigued by Andy’s EMS shirt and before long they were busy flirting with one another amidst the lively crowd dancing to the band at Icenhauer’s that night. Andy wanted to show how cool he was and in-touch with the local music scene, so he tried the best he could to get Sarah to follow him to Blackhearts (RIP). Sarah, not wanting to leave her roommate demurred, however she did offer her phone number. Andy tried to enjoy the music at Blackhearts but alas all he could think about was the cute brunette he had just met, and despite his better instincts started texting her, launching a chase that eventually brought them to Barbarella’s. On the magical Barbarella dancefloor Andy discovered the way to Sarah’s heart—asking her for a dance! Sarah’s smile was ear to ear as Andy twirled and dipped her with the confidence of Patrick Swayze. Many dates followed and despite Sarah’s best attempts to play it cool, she eventually fell for his rugged good looks (Andy taking author’s privilege here) and charm. Years of silly costumes, wild wedding weekends, and travel adventures followed, culminating in their engagement in June 2021.
