How We Met

Told by Andy

I met Becca at a Mexican restaurant near the hotel I was staying at on a drill weekend. I was there with two friends, sharing some drinks. When I noticed Becca a few tables away. We hadn’t spoken yet—just a few moments of eye contact—but that was enough. Next thing I knew, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and there she was. She smiled and asked if I wanted to share a margarita tower at her table... with her mom! Who, as it turns out, was a great wingman. One margarita tower turned into laughter, conversation, and a night that felt way bigger than it had any right to. And somewhere in the middle of it, I realized something important. When I looked into her eyes I saw sincerity and warmth. Turns out the best decision I made that drill weekend wasn’t military-related at all. It was saying yes to a margarita tower and meeting the woman who would become my wife.

How He Purposed

Told by Becca

Andy and I celebrate our anniversary a few weeks before Christmas, and instead of exchanging gifts, we decided to book a trip. We both love Nashville, but we had never experienced it together. One place Andy really wanted to visit was Cheekwood Estate & Gardens, a beautiful mansion surrounded by art galleries and stunning gardens. He was especially determined to find a “famous balcony” where, according to him, a scene from Star Wars had been filmed. I didn’t question it — I just followed along, amused and enjoying the adventure. We wandered the grounds, taking our time and soaking in the art and beauty. A few employees approached us, sharing the history of the estate. Andy seemed a little nervous, though I didn’t understand why until later. Eventually, we found the balcony he had been talking about. I walked to the edge, looking out over the gardens below, completely taken in by the view and the peacefulness of the moment. Then I heard him behind me say, “I lied… there is no Star Wars.” I turned around, and there he was — down on one knee, holding the most beautiful ring. Time completely slowed down. My hands flew to my face, my heart was racing, and I kept saying, “Oh my gosh!” about a hundred times before I could even get out a “Yes!” After he slipped the ring on my finger, I couldn’t stop staring at it… or at him. We just kept looking at each other and giggling like little kids. Of course, we had to celebrate the only way that made sense — heading to Broadway, soaking in the music, the lights, and telling anyone who would listen that we had just gotten engaged. I’m pretty sure the smiles never left our faces all weekend.
