We met through painting at Lasko Getaways Pesach program, where Andrew was serving as a Torah Comics Scholar-in-Residence. Creating art side by side quickly became the foundation of our relationship. After the program, Ariela returned to school in Israel while Andrew went back to Drexel in Philadelphia, and we spent the next four months long-distance—across an ocean and a time zone. In August, Andrew made aliyah and drafted to the army. Now, we can't wait to finally begin building our life together here in Israel.
Andrew told Ariela he had been hired to paint a small wedding overlooking Jerusalem and needed to arrive early to prepare the background. While painting together with the Old City in view, he revealed a painting—not of a wedding, but of us in that very moment—before getting down on one knee. We celebrated afterward with a candlelit dinner and a walk through the Old City during Chanukah. See more on insta @and_i_drew.
