Spencer and Melissa share a passion for gaming. She was a gamer streaming herself playing video games on Twitch. He enjoyed watching twitch streams while unwinding after work. In August 2017, Melissa decided to stream a game her friend told her about; Old School RuneScape. It was a game she knew nothing about but with her friends encouragement she streamed the new game. Spencer was just finishing work, watching people play his favourite game, and happened to stumbled across her stream. He spent the rest of the night helping her understand the basics of the game. Though she didnt stream that game again Spencer kept coming back to Melissa's twitch stream. It didn't matter what she was streaming he always stopped by to say hello and talk about life. They slowly became friends and eventually began texting back and forth. Spencer and Melissa helped each other through some really difficult times in each other's lives. They became close friends, started playing games together, speaking daily on the phone and even video chatting. In April 2018 they both agreed the chemistry was undeniable and decided to start dating long distance.

As the months went by Spencer and Melissa began discussing moving to be closer to each other. They eventually decided the best option would be for him to move to Canada and into her apartment with her. They began looking into the process and started saving money to put towards the move. In September 2018, Spencer approached his family about his plans to move to Canada. After some discussion they gave him their blessing. In October 2018, Melissa drove from Ottawa Ontario to Norwalk Connecticut to pick up Spencer and Mister Anderson. They packed the car and drove back to Ottawa the very same day.

After a smooth move Melissa and Spencer were extremely happy together. Her family adored him, even her niece and nephew quickly became attached to Spencer. Both families commented on the happiness that Melissa and Spencer bring out in each other. While sitting together reminiscing about how serendipitous their meeting was; and how much they'd already been through together, Spencer surprised Melissa with a beautiful ring. He told her that she brings so much joy to his life he can't imagine a life without her so he asked her to be his wife. She excitedly said yes!
