Things To Do

We feel incredibly lucky to have friends and family traveling from all across the country to celebrate our wedding day with us. Dubuque is a hidden gem of the Midwest, and we’re so excited to share our home with you. Below are a few of our favorite spots and recommendations to explore during the wedding weekend.

Riverboat Lounge

200 Main Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

One of our go‑to spots for a drink with friends, and conveniently right below our reception venue. It’s the perfect place to pop into before cocktail hour.

Wicked Dame

214 West 1st Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

A cozy neighborhood favorite with a fantastic wine list. If you’re in the mood for a great glass before or after the festivities, this is a spot we love sharing with friends.

EJ's Wine Shop & Tasting Room

955 Washington Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

EJ’s Wine Bar sits just below Maddie’s first apartment building, which makes it a sentimental favorite for us. By day it doubles as Paradigm, a cozy coffee shop, and by night it turns into an inviting spot to enjoy a great glass of wine. It’s a charming little place to stop in during your weekend

Backpocket Dubuque

333 East 10th Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

A fun, family‑friendly spot with great beer, an arcade, and duckpin bowling. It’s an easy place to spend an afternoon together during the wedding weekend.

Fat Tuesday's

1121 University Avenue, Dubuque, IA 52001

Fat Tuesday’s holds a special place in our story, as it was our second date spot and the place where we really fell in love. If you can brave the limited parking, the cheap drinks, vintage basketball hoop, and a round of darts make it absolutely worth the stop.

The Vault Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge

342 Main Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

A great downtown pick for lunch, with sandwiches, flatbreads, and shareable bites that always hit the spot. It’s an easy place to pop in during the day and refuel between wedding‑weekend activities.

L.May Eatery

1072 Main Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

A longtime local favorite with a great charcuterie board and the best espresso martini in town. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxed, delicious dinner during the weekend.

Swagat - Dubuque

1108 Locust Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

A favorite for phenomenal Indian food and the kindest service. It’s a great spot if you’re craving something flavorful and comforting during the weekend.

Roux & Lucia Restaurant

620 South Grandview Avenue, Dubuque, IA 52003

A beautiful spot with a bright solarium and fantastic food, perfect for breakfast or lunch. Their back‑building bakery is filled with fresh pastries, breads, and great coffee.

Jitterz Coffee & Cafe

1073 Main Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

Maddie’s all‑time favorite coffee spot in Dubuque. If you stop in, try the bride’s favorite, the ‘Kenzie 4 Maddie,’ a marshmallow‑and‑caramel coffee she swears by. Note, they are closed on Sunday's.

Charlotte's Coffee House

1104 White Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

A Dubuque favorite where Maddie and Andrew spent several coffee dates and wedding‑planning sessions. Known for great breakfast options and delicious açaí bowls, it’s a perfect spot to start your morning during the wedding weekend.

Roses & Berries Cafe

4340 Asbury Road, Dubuque, IA 52002

A little out of the way, but absolutely worth the drive. The food and pastries are phenomenal, and the space is beautifully decorated. A perfect stop as you’re heading out of town.

Mississippi Riverwalk

Mississippi Riverwalk, Dubuque, IA 52001

One of our favorite spots in town. It’s a simple, scenic walk right along the water and perfect for a quick, peaceful break during your visit.

National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium

350 East 3rd Street, Dubuque, IA 52001

One of the best family stops in town and a place Maddie and Andrew genuinely love. Kids enjoy the animals, the hands‑on exhibits, and all the river history. It’s an easy, fun way to spend a few hours while you’re here.

The Wanderwood Gardens

3810 Arboretum Drive, Dubuque, IA 52001

Opening this June, Wanderwood Garden will be a beautiful place for kids to explore and play. It’s an easy, relaxing stop for families and definitely worth a visit while you’re in town.

Horseshoe Bluff Lookout

11475 Mines of Spain Road, Dubuque, IA 52003

A beautiful area to explore if you want a little nature during your visit. The views from Horseshoe Bluff are stunning, and it’s actually where Andrew proposed to Maddie, so it’s a pretty special spot.

Fenelon Place Elevator Company

512 Fenelon Place, Dubuque, IA 52001

A quick, charming ride up one of the world’s shortest and steepest railways. It’s been around since 1882, and we promise it’s not scary, just a fun Dubuque classic with a great view at the top.
