Seasons of Love

Our Story, Sissy's version

Our story starts back in 2014. Having met through mutual friends and family, Andy and I were both in separate relationships, seeing one another at events and in passing. We only got to know a little about each other, but it would be a lie to say I wasn't captivated by Andy's charm. Fast forward a few years, work took Andy to Boston. Linda (Andy's mom) and I stayed in touch through backyard visits to pull garden weeds in exchange for wine and pizza and her visits to the Water Street Brewery for lunch (who would think that chicken tenders and ranch would play a part in a love story?). Fast forward to late January 2019, one day when I was in the kitchen of the Water Street Brewery, a staff member ran in the back to tell me a handsome man in a suit was asking for me. Confused, I wandered to the front worried that the health inspector was there to surprise me. I saw Andy, picking up an order of tenders with extra ranch for the office. We quickly exchanged information, intending to reconnect. It was nice to see him, even for a short moment before he ran back across the street to the purple building with his loot. At the time I was working more than full-time, in school part-time and spending any free time outside with Odie. I didn't really think he was interested in me in a romantic way, thinking he had just moved back from Boston and was looking to reconnect with people in Milwaukee. I didn't message him right away, but I am glad I finally did when the timing seemed right. April of 2019 we texted about meeting up for drinks. My friend Katie (Maid of Honor) and I were snagging a drink after work at a lovely cocktail bar in Walkers point that Andy and I still frequent- Boone & Crockett- at the time not really realizing this is the first date I would be writing about in the future! I think we caught Andy off-guard after I bought the first round of drinks, and Katie bought the second round. We ended up in the Riverwest where Andy bought us a round of pita & hummus at the kebab hut where we happily ate and chatted the rest of the night. After that night, Andy was officially invited to our trivia team. Not knowing that the next trivia night would land right on my birthday for an awkward surprise- but he stuck with it, and came to almost every trivia after. I only found out a few years later that Andy doesn't even like bar trivia, and only went so he could hang out with me. I don't know when our first real date was. Was it when he walked me to The Lumineers show at the Pabst after drinks at Blu -‘cause I had only bought 1 ticket? Or Kayaking the Milwaukee river after I slipped and fell on the green algae and forgot to bring my paddle? That summer we did so much bopping around the city showing each other our favorite bars and restaurants, dragging each other to shows at summerfest, hiking trails and bike rides. We never really knew the ‘official dates’, but we would refer to them as ‘Summers of love’ and ‘Winters of love’. The seasons that followed have all been amazing and have taken us to all sorts of places and moments. We have been fortunate to share memories of hikes in Colorado, river paddling in Louisiana, Bbq eating in Kansas City, Lakeside sitting in the Lake of the Ozarks, Quarantining in Arizona, building a home in Bayview, roasting in Oklahoma, Cheersing in Boston, Cozying up in Maine, engaging in Charleston, wandering through Japan, cherishing time in Florida, and gazing up at city lights in New York. We have been so lucky to have each other the past 5 years and are so excited to see what memories we continue to create together. I am looking forward to many more seasons of love to come.

For all the days along the way
