Before the ceremony, there will be a signing of the Ketubah, the Jewish marriage license, and this will be attended by immediate family and a few close friends to witness. Guests will be offered a kippah (head covering) to wear if they would like. Traditionally, men wear them during the ceremony, but anyone, regardless of gender, is welcome to wear one and no one is required to wear one! At the beginning of the ceremony, Andrew and Sarah will perform the egalitarian version of Hakafot, the circling, where they will circle each other a total of seven times to symbolize the wholeness and completeness they can only achieve together. Andrew and Sarah will then stand under the Chuppah, the wedding canopy, which serves as the altar under which the couple will exchange vows. The Chuppah symbolizes the home Andrew and Sarah will build together. Andrew and Sarah's immediate family share the Sheva Brachot, the seven blessings for the couple in this new chapter in their lives. Andrew will then break a glass under his foot to symbolize a call to repair the world, after which everyone will shout "Mazel Tov!" and sing. During the reception, there will be a hora dance, a traditional dance performed at Jewish weddings and bar or bat mitzvahs where everyone will be invited to participate!
