Like many couples these days, our story began on a dating app. Although our first date ended up being a great success (obviously), it didn't start out that way. In fact, it almost didn't happen at all! Andrew's Version We had planned to meet up for Cuban sandwiches on a Friday afternoon after work. Phoebe kept texting me to push back the time and (two hours later) I was starting to wonder if she was going to bail on me. With a touch of skepticism, I offered to bring some takeout to her office, thinking she must be starving after working so late. To my surprise, she agreed. I picked up some Chinese food from Best Wok and headed over to her office at Tennessee State University, fully expecting her to cancel. When I arrived, Phoebe was still finishing up a few emails. But once she was done, we slipped into conversation effortlessly, as if we had been waiting to meet each other forever. Before we knew it, the clock struck midnight, and we decided it was time to call it a night. From that moment on, we’ve been inseparable, sharing countless adventures and building a life together. Phoebe's Version We somehow managed to plan our first date on the only night in my life I have ever had to work late. I felt bad pushing back the time but (in true Phoebe fashion) I knew I was going to be late to whatever time we set anyway. I was relieved when Andrew offered to bring dinner! I did tell him to sit quietly for 15 minutes when he got there so I could focus on finishing my work (#bossy) but once we got to talking we didn't want to stop! I had a feeling Andrew was The One that night but knew for sure I would eventually marry him when he sent flowers to my office the Monday after our date. I even texted friends about my future husband and cancelled the other dates I had set up for that week! We've had several milestones since that moment but July 15th will always hold a special place in my heart as the night my life changed forever. <3
