Larissa and I met just before the COVID pandemic hit Canada and the lock-down began. We had met halfway in Red Deer for our first few dates, so I really wasn't sure what to do when all the stores and restaurants and everything closed down. We had only been on three dates, but I asked Larissa to come to my birthday dinner in Okotoks, which meant meeting my family. We ended up getting together every night that weekend and things started to get serious. I stopped at the Cameron Family Farm near Carstairs on my way home and met her family as well. After that, I spent nearly every weekend in Carstairs and almost immediately fell in love; both with Larissa and the Camerons. After only a couple of months of dating, I knew that this was the woman I wanted to spend eternity with, and together with a Jeweller that was miraculously still open, I designed her a ring! On May 16th, I took Larissa to the Sheep River Falls in Kananaskis. I had put the ring in the side pocket of the backpack which Larissa kept on insisting she carry. We took some photos and had a picnic on a bench overlooking the falls. Apparently I was being way too quiet so Larissa asked me what I was thinking about. I told her "Our future" and I knelt down, pulled out the ring, and asked her if she would make me the happiest man on earth and marry me. She said "Of course". We are so excited to share our lives together and hope you will join us on our special day!
'Why did I agree to go out tonight? Is it too late to get out of this? Crap.. I'm already in Red Deer. No turning back. Okay, Riss. You can do this. Put on your big girl panties and let your heart be open to new things'. All these thoughts ran through my mind while on my way to meet Andrew in Red Deer for our first date. Crazy, right? Those who know me well can attest to the fact that I'm a bit overprotective and cautious when it comes to my heart. That all changed when I met Andrew. We were only able to go out on a few 'normal' dates before covid hit, and locked everyone down. Still, we found ways to spend time together at my family farm, and at his family home in Okotoks. About a month into this new relationship, Andrew asked me to meet his family, and spend the weekend with them for his birthday. I won't lie... I panicked hard! Meet his family? We hadn't even had the talk about whether or not we were 'boyfriend/girlfriend' yet! But I went, because I knew Andrew was different. We made things official soon after that, and then the ball really got rolling! Remember that saying, 'When you know, you know'? I always scoffed at that idea. But seriously, you guys, it's a real thing! Andrew proposed on May 16th, at Sheep River Falls, on a little bench where we stopped for lunch. I actually gasped when I saw the ring. Andrew worded the proposal in a way that brought tears of joy to my eyes. When it came time for me to say, 'Yes, yes! A million times, yes!'... I said, 'Are you sure?' Thank goodness Andrew is the most patient man on Earth, and puts up with my dorkiness. I adore him for that. He assured me he was indeed positive, and the ring slid effortlessly onto my finger. We've been celebrating with family ever since that day, and we are beyond excited to be able to celebrate with all of you on our special day!
