Disclaimer, Karena already knew what was happening that Saturday. In fact, the previous night she had pieced the clues together. Andrew took Karena to one of their favorite places, Couer’d Alene, Idaho for late lunch with their friends Caleb & Whitney. Whitney is a photographer and her husband Caleb who is not a photographer was pretending to be an apprentice to his wife. After lunch, the four set out to capture some photos and find a place to watch the sunset on the lake. Karena saw Andrew constantly looking behind his shoulders to make sure Whitney and Caleb were close behind, but not too close. Andrew would occasionally pause during their walk around the lake and asked if this was a good spot to watch the sunset. Karena responded with a simple no and continued to scout out a spot to watch the sunset aka find a perfect spot for the proposal to happen. After scaling some slippery rocks, the couple came to an outcropping of rocks that overlooked the lake. The two took in the breathtaking view and Andrew told Karena how much he loved her and wanted to spend the rest of his life with his best friend. When Andrew sweetly repeated "I love you" and slowly turned to get on one knee, Karena quickly repositioned herself to help Andrew avoid kneeling in a puddle of muddy water. Andrew asked Karena to marry him and she said YES! Moments after, Whitney & Caleb emerged from their hiding spots behind the rocks where they were able to capture the whole thing. Afterward, Karena & Andrew watched the sunset and took in the surreal moment that had just happened. They celebrated together with some Gooey's ice cream and later that evening celebrated with their close friends at their favorite Irish pub in Pullman.
From the time we first started dating to now, we have experienced a lot of life and a lot of transitions. Thank you to the family and friends who have prayed with us, championed us, and been there for the in-between moments when life felt so uncertain. Thank you for loving us and pointing us back to Christ, who is the only certain that we know in this life.
