We met back in 2015, three weeks after Emi moved to Chicago. Eager to meet one another, we settled on a simple dinner and movie date. Fun fact: we saw The Avengers, as Emi mentioned it was one of her favorite series and Andrew also said it was one of his favorite series. Plot twist, Andrew isn't a fan of those movies and simply wanted to take Emi out (desperate much?). They quickly knew their relationship was special as she was introduced to his extended family in Michigan just a couple of weeks later... and the rest is history.
Like many plans, the pandemic struck and things came to a halt (including a planned proposal) . As it progressed, an opportunity was presented when Emi’s family would have a reunion in Cancún, Mexico. Near the end of the trip, Andrew asked the family to gather at the beach during sunset for a picture. He set up a camera and tripod, forgot to press record (way to go Andrew!), and went down on one knee behind the family as they posed. After a quick “cough, cough”, Emi turned and made eye contact which led to a stream of tears and an in-shock... “Yes!”
To our family and friends in the United States, we truly appreciate the consideration to join us in Mexico as international travel is no easy task. We are working hard to ensure this wedding is an event you'll remember for many years to come (did we mention roaming peacocks and a light-up dance floor!?). If you can or cannot join us on this wonderful occasion, feel free to RSVP in advance, but also expect a formal invitation before the event.
