How Our Story Started

We’ve known of each other since middle school, back when we were both in band. Andrew played the trombone and I played the clarinet. Even though we were in the same room so often, we never really had the chance to become close. There was a small moment in junior year when we ended up in the same English class. We sat next to each other, and I would ask him to hand me a Chromebook. Eventually, he just started grabbing it for me before I even asked. It was a quiet gesture, but we both remember it. Still, that was as far as it went at the time. Then came senior year, and we found ourselves in the same forensics class. We started talking more, slowly getting to know each other, but we still weren’t that close. That started to change in December. I had just come back from a month-long trip to the Philippines and needed to make up some quizzes for English. Funny enough, English classes always seemed to bring us together. I had to come in during the teacher’s free period to take them. I remember walking into the room, scanning it, feeling unsure of who I'd see. Then my eyes landed on Andrew, and I smiled. He looked up, saw me, and smiled back. Without a word, he moved his things and made space for me next to him. From that point on, even after I finished all my makeup work, I kept coming back during that free period just to talk. And he kept making space for me like he was waiting. We started talking more, and those casual conversations quickly became something we both looked forward to. Since I didn’t have any more classes, school was already over for me by then. He started walking me to the doors when it was time for me to leave, and it became a quiet part of our day that we both started to count on. It was simple, but it meant a lot. Not long after that, he asked me out. Now here we are, getting ready to spend the rest of our lives together as husband and wife.
