How We Met

We met in 2017 at a mutual job where we both worked. Little did I know, Andrew had been eyeing me since the very first day he saw me, which was a couple of months prior to our first meeting. I recently started a new position that required me to switch from day shift to night shift and was struggling quite a bit. As God would have it, Andrew had been working night shift and was quite used to the routine. Most nights on his way out for break, Andrew would see me at the desk struggling to stay awake. One night, Andrew again saw me struggling, falling asleep as I'm trying to work, so he seized the opportunity and finally decided to talk to me. “You know you could get in trouble”, he says. Embarrassed, I simply replied, “Yea, I know”. This happened a few nights until finally he decides to say more than just "sleeping again?” After he asked me, I replied with my usual response, "yea, I know”, but this time, he kept talking. As I went back to my work, Andrew interrupted and said, “you know I can help you stay awake”. So, I say “oh yea, how?” He replies “All you need is someone to talk to and keep you up, if you give me your number, I can do that. I can text you throughout the night and make sure you’re awake”. And the rest, as they say is history.

The Proposal

March 15, 2020

For our proposal, I took Antoinette back to the same place we had our very first date (R1 Indoor Karting, Lincoln, RI)! In collaboration with her best friends, I had been planning our engagement for about seven months to come up with the perfect plan. The plan was to make her think she was going on a girl’s night outing with her best friends. Not only was I in collaboration with her best friends, but also the staff at R1 Indoor Karting, and we came up with the perfect plan. The plan was to have them arrive and race as usual and then the cars would malfunction. They would then have to send a tech to fix it, which would be me. On the day of the proposal, all was set, they arrived, and the races began. They went around the track twice and then finally, it was showtime! The cars stopped and I came out. Nervous and dressed like staff, I walked towards her car and told her to get out. She automatically replied “Babe” as she recognized me. I took off my helmet and walked her to the middle of the track, got on one knee and told her to look up as all of our friends and family were watching and waiting. As she looked up, our song starts to play. She begins to cry, looks back at me and answers yes!
