How We Met

6/16/2025

Our story was truly written by God. It was Andrew’s first time going to our parish young adult group and I remember recognizing him when he first introduced himself. I was thinking, that can’t be the same kid from our homeschool co-op. After our priest led a talk, I was chatting with my friend and telling her how I couldn’t get over how familiar that guy (Andrew) looked. She told me I should just go ask him. Right after introducing myself, I went in with, “can I ask you a random question?” Andrew just laughed and said, “sure.” “Did you live in Virginia?” “Yes…” “Ok, did you go to Capital Baptist Co-op?” “Yes…” “I think my family drove you home when we were in middle school!” We were all so shocked and laughed about the coincidence of running into each other over 10 years later! Neither of us knew it yet, but that was the beginning of our story. Two months flew by quickly, and we spent lots of time together through our young adult group. Little did I know that Andrew had been wanting to ask me out, but I was always hanging around my sisters or friends, so there was never a good moment! One Monday night, after dinner with the group, we were chatting just him and me. Before we said goodbye, Andrew pulled out his phone and asked, “can I get your number so we can go on a date?” I nodded *very* enthusiastically. Our first date was at Commerce Kitchen in Downtown Huntsville, and we had such a lovely time! From there, we started doing lots of things together but no matter what it was, we were always happy to be in each other’s company. Fast forward to February 2026, and I had it in my head that Andrew was going to propose on St. Valentine’s Day weekend. Don’t ask me why, I had no idea when the ring was going to be ready and we hadn’t talked about it since the month before. The Friday before St. Valentine’s Day, we planned to have lunch in Big Spring Park since the weather was so nice. On our way there, Andrew mentioned that he “forgot” a book at his house and wanted to swing by to grab it. I was hyperanalyzing whether he was actually grabbing a book or something else... Throughout that whole afternoon, I could tell something was up. Andrew even mentioned at one point that he was disappointed that the ring was going to take 4-6 weeks. At first, I shared in that disappointment, but then I thought... could this be a cover story? After the picnic, Andrew asked if we could watch the sunset at one of our favorite overlooks. My suspicions were definitely raised at this point. When we got there, it seemed like the whole city of Huntsville was there too. (Much to Andrew’s chagrin.) So we sat at the overlook watching the sunset. Andrew was waiting for all the people to leave, and I was trying to figure out what was going on. (At one point, I could feel his heart beating through his sweater, which led me to ask repeatedly if he was feeling okay.) Finally, Andrew said we should go on a walk. When we got to a place where there weren’t any people, he proposed! Of course, I said yes! And now we are here, getting to celebrate this amazing time in our lives with all of you! Thank you for reading!
