How We Met

Spring 2011

Our journey together started with a Habitat for Humanity trip to Kissimmee, FL while we were in college at Case Western Reserve University. We piled into a couple of vans and drove south, completely unaware of how fateful this trip would be for us. Andy was perhaps a little too focused on fun, especially when taking an impromptu detour to Waffle House. Amy's first impression of Andy was, perhaps unsurprisingly, "oh great, this van of kids is going to cause trouble for sure!" But a year later - after some physics tutoring sessions, a couple of nail-bitter Ohio State football games, and one fateful game of Words with Friends - we started dating in December of 2011. Of course, that was just in time for Andy to go to grad school at MIT and for Amy to finish up at Case. Thus started over 6 years of long distance dating.... Fast forward one, soon to be two, doctoral degrees (one PhD and one DO), countless car trips, plane rides, and splitting holidays between families living 6 hours apart, we finally made it to getting engaged! We can't wait to finally be in the same city again and start the rest of our lives together.

First "I Love You's"

Spring 2012

You guessed it, Habitat for Humanity 2! We piled into a van yet again, and one twenty-hour drive later we found ourselves in sunny Mobile, Alabama. We snuck away from our friend group, to a nearby pier. It was there and then that we exchanged our first "I love you's"...Amy's may have come after the kiss.

The Proposal

Fall 2018

This one starts about 4 months before she said "Yes." Andy needed a little help from family to make sure everything was just right when he got down on one knee. So he enlisted the help of Amy's parents, Bob and Julie, but not before asking for their blessing when asking their daughter to marry him. Side story - Julie totally knew what was up and even preempted Andy's nervous request with a terrifically hilarious, "Oh! Here we go!" Anyway, Andy had a great idea of asking Bob to make the ring box for the engagement ring. Two weeks later, Andy got a phone call and few text messages...with options! A few months later and Andy is on the plane heading to Ohio. A short drive later to Lima, and here we are, Amy getting ready for a nice dinner our, and Andy, completely nervous as all get-out. It was then, that wonderful evening, that Andy bent down onto one knee, ring and ring box in hand that he asked Amy to be his beautiful bride... Of course she said "yes!" A few hugs and kisses later Andy said "I've got one more surprise for you." Amy quickly responded with "Did my dad make the ring box? 'Cuz this kinda looks like his work."
