We had our first date on Beech Hill and frequently walk here all year round. It's an easy 15 minute hike up a slight incline
Camden is home to Camden Hills State Park. Some beloved hikes are Maiden's Cliff, Mount Battie, Bald Mountain, and Ragged Mountain.
Monhegan Island is where we sealed the deal on a long weekend two weeks into dating. You can take a day trip out to this magical island 10 miles off the coast by catching the boat on Monhegan Boatlines out of Port Clyde. Reservations required. When you are out there, you can hike their trails. If you want to spend the night, we recommend staying with our friend Melanie at the Monhegan House. Note that you can't take your car and should only go in good walking shoes as the terrain is a bit rugged.
October is right on the cusp of sailing season. You can join a daysailer such as The Schooner Surprise (where Alice used to play music in high school!) for a 2 hour sail out of Camden Harbor. You will get beautiful views looking back to the town and mountains. You will also see Curtis Island Lighthouse and maybe even some wildlife such as seals and porpoises
If you want to enjoy the views without hiking up, you can enter Camden Hills State Park and drive up Mount Battle on their auto road and see beautiful ocean views from the top.
In Rockland, the Breakwater is a beautiful walk out into the harbor to a lighthouse.
There are so many amazing places to eat in Camden, Rockport, and Rockland! In Camden our favorites are Long Grain (Thai), Mosaic (Mexican-ish), Buttermilk Kitchen (breakfast), and Zoot (coffee). In Rockland, we love Home Kitchen Cafe (breakfast), Ada's Kitchen (Italian), and Rock City Coffee (coffee). In Rockport, we love Bleeker and Greer (deli/cafe), Sea Folk (coffee with an ocean view), and Freyas (gelato/crepes).
Lots of people visit Maine just to explore the beautiful Acadia National Park, which is about a 1.5 hour drive north of Camden.
For art lovers, stroll down Bayview Street in Camden and enjoy galleries such as Page Gallery, Carver Hill, and Harbor Square Gallery. In Rockland you can discover Dowling Walsh, the Farnsworth Museum, and the Center For Maine Contemporary Art. If you wander around either of these towns, you will stumble upon many more as well.
