We met the second semester of our Freshman year at JBU during a game of What Do You Meme. We got to know each other more over the following year, and by the Spring of our Sophomore year, we were hanging out so much that people were asking questions. Our response was always, "We're just friends!" But soon enough, we weren't. We finally decided to give dating a go at the height of COVID, after months of talking over Facetime for hours every day! It wasn't long before we both realized that this was a friendship and partnership that could last a lifetime. It hasn't been perfect (or even easy, at times), but we are so thankful for our God who has transformed us and taught us how to love well throughout this process.
Two days after Thanksgiving, we planned to go to Eureka Springs, Arkansas for a date. We made the plans only a week in advance and on a whim, so Sarah didn't suspect anything leading up to it. After trying to find parking for nearly forty-five minutes, we browsed the shops downtown and ate in an underground cafe. It was then that Andrew casually tried to direct us toward the spot he was going to propose, and asked, "Do you want to go on a little hike before we head back tonight?" Before he even finished the sentence, Sarah said, "Absolutely not." His face fell. Sarah was in her white shoes and a skirt and wasn't prepared for a hike. But when he insisted, she agreed, suspecting that he was wanting to take her on a hike for a reason. After browsing for a while longer, we got to the trail that looped around a lake nestled in a valley. At the very end, on a section of the bank, a picnic was set up with a charcuterie board, flowers, candles, and wine. We ate and talked and danced in view of the sunset on the lake. Andrew told Sarah what she meant to him, and then he popped the question. And she said yes! Or maybe she just said, "Yeah." We can't quite remember.
