John and Priscilla served alongside each other for a year and knew each other in passing, but this was the day they actually noticed each other. John was helping with a worship album and Priscilla was making food for the team.
We had the events to this day planned for a while before it actually happened. The day began with Turkish coffee, lunch at Brenda's and a relaxing time at a Black Sand beach. This was a day that solidified my (Priscilla) feelings for him. I could effortlessly be myself around him.
Over the summer, Priscilla and I were inseparable. We loved spending time with one another. Fast forward to September -- we had planned a Portland trip with a few of our friends. Although her and I were not officially "dating", we seemed as though we were throughout the length of the trip. A few days after returning home, I shared a quiet, intimate moment with her in my car where we spoke about our true feelings for each other. Long story short: I looked her in the eye, her hand in mine, both of us smiling, and I officially asked her, "Will you be my boyfriend? -- I mean, girlfriend!" It was great.
Although Priscilla and I had already been in agreement with each other to move forward with our relationship and get married, I still haven't popped THE question. I knew in my heart that I still wanted to formally ask her. I started growing impatient while waiting for the actual engagement ring to be delivered to me (delays occurred due to COVID-19), so I decided to make Priscilla a ring made out of string. Then on one beautiful, sunny day on April 24, 2020, with the string ring in my back pocket, Priscilla and I take a drive out to Monterey. Unbeknownst to her, this was the day that I was going to propose. We settle at a bench located at Berwick Park. The view and the place was spectacular; we sat cliff-side with the sun shining, seagulls flying, waves crashing, and a cool, gentle breeze to top it off. After a few minutes of enjoying one another's company, I took Priscilla's hand and said, "Honey, I know we want to get married, but I really wanted to make this official." I got down on one knee as I'm pulling out the string ring from my pocket, her eyes begin to well up with tears. "Baby, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" "Yes!", she exclaims. I put the string ring on her finger (it fit!). We smooched and hugged and it was indeed an amazing day. #Stringstriiing
