Like everyone else during the pandemic, we were both stuck at home trying to remember what normal human interaction felt like. Meeting new people was basically impossible, so social media became the closest thing we had to a social life. That is where our story quietly started, with one DM that turned into another… and then many more. We talked constantly and eventually decided to meet up for hot chocolate. Andres, however, did not drink his, which was extremely suspicious behavior for a first date, but we chose to overlook it. From that day on, hanging out together became the best part of our weeks. What started as casual chats turned into something that felt surprisingly natural. On March 7, 2021, we went on our first official date at the Museum of Ice Cream. It was bright, silly, and full of sprinkles, which made it the perfect place for two people who had no idea they were about to fall in love. Years later, we went back to that same spot to take our engagement photos, a little nod to where it all began. They say men know right away when they have found their person. I remember telling Andres I was not looking for a relationship, and he just smiled and said, “Just keep an open mind.” He also said “I love you” first, which in hindsight should have been my clue that he already knew exactly what he was doing. Five years later, turns out he really did.
