For our American guests, the term "Polterabend" is probably confusing; I recommend looking at this article to better understand this tradition: https://germanculture.com.ua/german-traditions/polterabend-german-wedding-pre-party-tradition/ To sum it up, we smash a bunch of porcelain for luck the night before the wedding! Our German guests might be thrilled but anxious about how to get porcelain unbroken through the flight...no worries! We will provide plenty of porcelain items so that all of our guests can participate in the fun!
There will be times where someone says something like, "No ice please." and you are super confused, because ice is amazing. Or they might not say "Guten Appetit" before eating and it's even more confusing, when do you eat? There will be little moments throughout this weekend where you will experience behavior that is different from what is normal for you. I would encourage all of you to keep an open mind and ask questions if you are confused by something. Lastly, I implore all of you to avoid talking about politics or other controversial topics, it is a very divisive topic. Rather, let's spend time talking about the things that bring us together, because that is what this weekend is about, love.
With so many unknowns and our guests living in two different countries, we did not think it would be wise to go with a traditional registry. The details get complicated around exchange rates and shipping costs, so it simply would not be helpful to have any physical items or gifts cards in USD currency. It's not exactly exciting, but monetary gifts such as cash or a check would be the best alternative if you wish to give a gift. Feel free to reach out to one of us directly if you have questions. However, we will gratefully accept your time and company as gift enough. Your presence is the greatest gift we could ask for :)
Hot. It is common for the temperature in Nashville to be around 90F / 31°C in July. The humidity will make you feel like a poached egg. I bring this up simply to warn our guests coming from Germany. Our Wedding Ceremony and Reception will take place inside, but the other activities will involve some exposure to the heat. Please pack for hot weather and remember to drink a lot of water over this weekend.
