The Scene: Kansas City, February 2022, right before Valentine's Day. We'd been talking on Hinge for a while and we finally set a date to go out to Lulu's Thai. Now, keep in mind, I had only lived in KC for a single week at this point and only knew of the 48th St location. Day comes, I get there and get us a table, let Josh know I'm there. He responds that he's looking for parking - there's a whole parking lot with plenty of spaces where I am. Turns out, Josh is in the Crossroads Arts District where it's notoriously hard to find parking on a weekend evening, but like a gentleman, he agrees to come to me. He arrives and we make classic first date small talk. Both of us are anxious but in good first date fashion, we order food, I alarm him with how spicy I like my food, and we continue chatting. We start talking about my tattoos and naturally my dad comes up because of my BE A SHARK in memoriam tattoo. I then proceed to make that 3, count that, THREE, dead dad jokes. We're both uncomfortable now but nearing the end of the meal. He pays and we continue chatting. It hits 9pm SHARP and Josh *looks at his watch* and goes, "okay well I should go now". We get up awkwardly and go outside, I'm thinking it went weird but well enough, meanwhile Josh goes "okay bye", awkwardly waves, and beelines to his car. Still not the worst first date I've ever been on.
