We met in April of 2008, at my cousin's quinceañera. My best friend had asked me who I wanted to dance with, and as I looked around the room, my eyes locked on him and I said "That tall guy over there." Later that night, my brother told me that Patricio said "Damn, who's that girl in the green dress... hook it up." when he first saw me. Safe to say, we picked each other at first sight. That first night, he got my phone number, and we have texted almost every day since. We became official June 9, 2008 over a drink at Jamba Juice. He left for college in Sacramento at the end of the summer, but we decided to try a long distance relationship. He drove back every single weekend for visits, and we stayed connected through text messages throughout the week, from "goodmorning" to "goodnight." After a year of long distance, I graduated high school and got accepted to Sacramento State. We were finally able to live in the same city again. This lasted two years, until Patricio moved back to Santa Rosa. I stayed in Sacramento, and so the long distance routine lasted 4 more years. On our 8 year anniversary, Patricio decided to take me for a picnic at Bodega Bay. We ate sandwiches near the water and relaxed, listening to the waves and watching for sea lions in the water. Just before sunset, he suggested we go for a walk. "Wow, he's being so romantic today" I thought. Although, I had no idea what was ahead. As we walked, we talked about how much we love each other. Then, we stopped walking. I still had no idea what was coming when he said "I've been waiting a long time for this day." To my confusion, I asked "Huh? Why?" And he got down on one knee. My heart stopped. He asked "Will you marry me?" And I was in such shock that I was speechless and could only nod my head yes as tears ran down my face.
