The Royal Wulff is a fly pattern and also our beloved tavern where Ernest Hemmingway liked to frequent. He owned a ranch up the road. His time in Montana inspired: For Whom the Bell Tolls, Across the River and into the Trees, Islands in the Stream, A Man of the World and True at First Light , multiple of these with direct mentions to Cooke City. Andrea, despite his less than ideal morals, has always loved Hemmingway's writing. "On Saturday Nights, Ernest and his wife would come for dinner and to do some dancing. You see, we had the only dance band in that area. Ernest was a very heavy drinker and always wanted to stay until we closed the bar.”
