Right before our Hawaii trip, he accidentally emailed me the itinerary... and right there, in bold letters: Engaged on Maui. At first, I told myself I’d ignore it—don’t ruin it, act surprised. But who was I kidding? I immediately started thinking about the perfect outfit, hair, makeup—the whole proposal-ready look. I told him I saw the email. He texted back, “Omg, what did I do? I am so sorry—act surprised!” Even though the surprise was spoiled, the moment wasn’t. I was still amazed. He still got down on one knee at this stunning historic botanical paradise with a castle in the jungle: Haiku Mill, located on Maui’s North Shore. I still cried, and it turned out to be one of the best days of my life.
