We met while working at a Pittsburgh nursing home in 2017. Shout out to Kane Glen Hazel! Cletus, with his bubbly and charismatic personality immediately sparked my interest. I introduced myself in front of the elevator one day to be friendly. Cletus was of course polite, but promptly pressed the elevator button and entered. I now know that he was so nervous, he took an elevator ride to another floor just to get away! This strange and hilarious first interaction is one of our favorite things to reminisce about. Almost a full year after our first meeting, with many soft smiles shared in between, we both found the courage to go out on a date. I've never had so much fun with someone. We laughed until we cried. There was no denying that we had something special between us. The rest is history.
On the coldest day of 2021 (I'm not sure if this is factual, but it sure felt like it), Cletus convinced me that we were going on an annual fishing trip with his family. I was confused, considering the weather, but I know that they love fishing, so I bundled up and joined. After awhile of fishing, a strange woman walked down to the water and asked to take a photo of us with the scenery. If you know me, you know I love a good photo op so I jumped up right away! I thought it was going to be a family photo, so I became confused when no one else joined. Once I saw Cletus's face I knew what was about to happen. We both started crying as he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I didn't think I could get any happier than I was at that moment, but then Cletus told me that there was another surprise. We drove down the road and I burst into tears when I saw my mom's van parked at a state park in Pennsylvania. We got out of the car and saw an amazing set up with balloons, champagne, and most importantly, family and friends. It was so special to share this moment with both of our families and loved ones.
