Andrea’s Version: I remember exactly when we met—August 28, 2017—because it was not only the first day we met but the first day of high school! Alex was in my orientation class, and we were assigned to sit in alphabetical order. Technically, I was supposed to sit next to his friend, but somehow the seats got switched, and I ended up next to him. He was super nice and friendly, and since I was the “new” girl, I thought he’d be a great person to have as a friend. By the end of the day, I asked for his Snapchat, and later I texted him a simple “hey.” That was the start of our very first conversation. One of my favorite memories from that week is when I accidentally missed a class because I didn’t realize I had to switch buildings at McCaskey. I was panicking, but Alex calmed me down and told me to meet him after. When I did, I went in for a side hug, but somehow I ended up just hugging his arm. It was awkward and hilarious, and we still laugh about it to this day. Alex’s Version: I don’t remember the exact date like Andrea does, but I definitely remember that first week of high school. In orientation, she ended up sitting next to me even though her spot was supposed to be by my friend. It just worked out that way—and I’m glad it did. Right away, Andrea stood out. She was funny, easy to talk to, and had this kind of energy that made me want to be around her. When she asked for my Snapchat, I thought it was cool that she wanted to keep in touch, but I had no idea it would lead us here. I also remember that moment when she was stressed about missing class. I just wanted her to know everything would be okay. Then came that “hug”—she went one way, I went another, and she ended up hugging my arm. It was awkward for a second, but honestly, I thought it was cute. Looking back, that little moment makes me smile because it was the start of everything.
