The "Dungeons & Dating" Story

While their friend groups had been circling each other for years thanks to independent co-dependences with each Witt sibling, Chase and Ash officially collided at a housewarming party hosted by officiant CG and Lauren. Fun fact: Ash’s dad technically "claimed" Chase first, a victory he still brings up at every opportunity. Chase eventually made his move, asking for Ash’s number under the "guise" of playing D&D. Ash, a professional nerd, was so stoked about the dice-rolling that she completely missed the fact that a cute boy was hitting on her. The Torture Phase By the time Ash’s brain finally registered that she liked this cute, nerdy guy, Chase had moved on to dating someone else. To make matters worse, he spent the next few months unintentionally torturing her by asking for "girl advice." Thankfully, their friends CG, Lauren, and Haden staged a full-scale intervention. CG essentially stalked Chase, texting Ash to "accidentally" show up whenever he was around. After four "dates" (that only Ash knew were dates), they finally started dating October '23 and made it official two months later. The Proposal (or: Ash Sticks Her Foot in Her Mouth) Two years later—now sharing a grocery budget and two cats—the friend group plus parents attended a tailgate for the Georgia Tech vs. Virginia Tech game (aka, the superior Tech vs. that other one). Convinced the proposal would happen during their upcoming Italy trip, Ash spent the night before at dinner with their parents loudly declaring how much she would hate a public proposal. Cue a family-wide panic attack. Despite having spent the previous night incredibly sick and dealing with a very cranky Ash who didn't want to be at a 10 a.m. tailgate, Chase was undeterred. He led her to a campus garden where—dressed in matching cat Hawaiian shirts—he delivered a speech that they both immediately blacked out during. He dropped to one knee, Ash realized she was a hypocrite who actually loved a public proposal, and after 30 minutes of sobbing, they were engaged. Moral of the story: Never trust Ash’s opinions on her own engagement, D&D is romantic, and always wear the cat Hawaiian shirt.
