We met in the halls of Memorial at James Madison University, both deeply invested in our geology studies. A study abroad trip to San Salvador, Bahamas enhanced our friendship united in hard work and a love of learning. Our partnership during the final project for our class, ignited our relationship and we soon embraced our mutual love of adventure. We had finally found the perfect adventure buddy! In our 5 years of dating, we have been to 28 states, 100+ NPS sites, and trekked countless miles. We've lived in tents, a one room apartment, and finally a house! Our relationship has spanned between South Dakota, Arizona, and Ireland; between Louisiana and Antarctica. Even 8,000 miles apart our love has always stayed strong. With Michael halfway to a PhD and Sarah with a full time educator job at a nature center, now is the perfect time to affirm our love infront of those who matter most. We cannot wait to become Mr. and Mrs. Stone... and one day Dr. and Mrs. Stone!
The sun set on a normal September evening in Tickfaw State Park. A day of adventures with Flapjack the foster dog ended with relaxing around the glow from a beautiful campfire. While discussing their love of adventures and how special the little trips like this are, Michael began to act nervous. Fidgeting with his front left pocket he shared just how import adventures are with Sarah. Pulling out a small box, Michael got down on one knee and asked for Sarah's hand in marriage! She was shocked! Surely she would have had to wait for a more epic adventure than just a little local trip... but that's truly what made it so special. Owls hooted deep in the forest, frogs croaked up to the stars, and the fire illuminated Sarah and Michael as they embraced in their first hug as an engaged couple. While big adventures to spectacular and breathtaking places are great, small intimate adventures are the ones that matter most. The night ended with wine, phone calls to family and friends, and a run in with a wild armadillo!
