We first bumped into each other at Lakefront, an outdoor music festival in Prior Lake, the summer before we headed off to study abroad. I was having way too much fun to remember every detail—but Thomas? He sweetly remembered it all. He saw me in a red tank and black jean shorts, flashing him a big smile! We knew we’d be heading overseas together that fall, but had no idea just how much that experience would eventually change our lives. Our official “hello” came a few months later in Greece and Italy, during our study abroad through the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University. What started as a friendship quietly laid the foundation for something much more, though neither of us realized it at the time. After we got home, life pulled us in different directions. But during our final semester, the universe brought us back together in the sweetest way. I bumped back into Thomas in the kitchen of his college house while dropping off a friend to see her now husband after a fun night at Sal’s Bar. He was making a late-night pizza, and I had no idea he lived there. We both laughed at the surprise of it all. Later that night, he texted to make sure I got home safe and told me it was really good to see that smile again! We graduated that spring, and by fall, we were all in. The stunner with the beautiful blue eyes from abroad had become my best friend and life partner! Looking back now, we can’t help but laugh—and feel so grateful—that the universe kept gently, and sometimes not-so-gently, nudging us back into each other’s lives.
