How We Became Us

11.26.16

We don’t have a cute or romatinc story. I find it to be quite comical, he tends to leave out a few details. Years before we started talking, we met through our family. More specifically, my grandpa was dating his mom. This is the only reason we knew eachother. Jump forward 15 years and he posts a tweet around 4 am, that I happend to favorite. (Aaron hadn’t gone to bed, and I was waking up for the day.) He “slid into my DM’s” and we started talking. I ended up leaving my family’s thanksgiving to go hang out with him. We both said we weren’t going to hang out again. A week or so later, he asked what I was doing, saying we should hang out again. He tried getting me to come to Sioux Falls, but it was the one night during the week that I didn’t have to. I told him he could come to Vermillion, thinking he would say no. He didn’t. An hour later, he showed up on my doorstep. The next thing we knew, we were dating, 12.17.16. Our relationship progressed, we went through some tragedies, a deployment, and had a lot of fun the rest of the time!

The Proposal

12.14.18

Aaron had every detail planned, so sweet, so romantic, and so not secretive, although he tried. He made reservations downtown, had a photographer lined up, and a limo to follow. We got down to the falls, and it was nearly empty. He refused to park up top, we had to park at the bottom and walk up. Remind you, I am in a dress and heels in the middle of December. We walk across the falls to the spot he had chosen, and there is a cupple standing where he wanted to be. There was a photographer casually taking a picture of the trees, trying to be discrete. We stood there in silence, waiting. I’m pretty sure I asked if we could leave because I was freezing at this point, to which he told me no. We continued to stand there. And finally, after the couple left, he got down on his knee and asked me to be his forever! Now to the not so secretive part... Leading up to the day: He made reservations down town nearly a month in adavnace, and if you know us, we don’t make reservations. A week prior to the day, I called him on my way to church, and he asked me if I was going to get my nails done for we go out. I laughed and said no. I also told some of my family at church that i thought he was going to propose on our date. Later in the week, I was at work, and he told me he had gone clothes shopping. Coming from the guy who has to ask what size jeans I buy him, it was all to obvious. Day of: He could not sit still. He was doing anything and everything he could to avoid being home. We start getting ready, its 4 o’clock, and he starts drinking a beer. He was sweating profusely and just being weird. He loaded up the vehicle almost an hour before we left, while doing so, he forgot to close the door to the safe. We finally leave the house, 45 minutes before we were supposed to be at the falls. And the rest leads to history.

For all the days along the way
