Anchorage

Anchorage, AK

Anchorage is "the big city" of Alaska and is only 45 minutes from the wedding venue. After landing in Anchorage grab a bite to eat and explore historic downtown before setting off on your Alaskan Adventure! Don't forget to look for Beluga Whales and people surfing the bore tide in Turnagain Arm on your way out of town. Where to eat in Anchorage: -The Moose's Tooth Pub and Pizzeria -Snow City Cafe -Organic Oasis -Hotel Captain Cook -Glacier Brewhouse -Orso Adventures in Anchorage: -Hike Flattop Mountain (on a clear day you can see the Sleeping Lady and Denali mountains) -Learn about Alaska's Indigenous People at Alaska Native Heritage Center -Take the train from Anchorage to Spencer Glacier, (day trip) Seward (day trip), or Denali (overnight/multi-day) book a Kenai Fjords wildlife cruise out of Seward for a full day of land and sea adventure

Girdwood

Girdwood, AK

Girdwood is nearly 40 miles and a 50 minute drive from Anchorage. Girdwood is only 15 minutes from the wedding venue and the town with the most places to stay for the wedding. Adventures in Girdwood: -Take the tram at Alyeska - Hiking Winner Creek Trail -Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center -Rafting 6 Mile River - Grab a drink and watch or dance to live music at the Sitzmark -Drive through the tunnel to Whittier and catch a wildlife viewing cruise or fishing charter Where to eat in Girdwood: -Jack Sprat -The Double Musky -Chair 5 -Seven Glaciers

Kenai/Soldotna

Kenai, AK

Anders' hometown! :) 158 miles and a three hour drive from Anchorage. Adventures in Kenai: -Salmon fishing on the Kenai or Russian River -Explore Old Town and Walking Kenai North Beach -Scenic wildlife viewing float down Kenai River -Take a short hike to the Russian River Falls on your way down from Anchorage (don't forget your camera to get bear and eagle photos) -Hike Skyline Trail Where to eat in Kenai: -Veronicas Cafe -The Flats -Louis Steak and Seafood for breakfast -St. Elias Brewing (Soldotna) -Lucy's Market in River City Bookstore (Soldotna) -Kenai River Brewing Company (Soldotna)

Homer

Homer, AK

221 miles and a four-hour drive from Anchorage - Homer is near and dear to Anders & Mary's hearts as that is where they lived during the summer of 2014. Adventures in Homer: -True North Kayak Adventures (Where Anders worked in summer of 2014) -Bear Creek Winery (Where Mary work during the summer of 2014) -Halibut fishing -Walk around the Homer Spit -Hiking to the Grewingk Glacier across the bay from Homer (taking a water taxi is required) -Hiking Grace Ridge across the bay from Homer (taking a water taxi is required) -Halibut Cove - across the bay from Homer (taking a water taxi is required) Where to Eat/Drink in Homer: -Finn's Pizza -Two Sisters Bakery -Wasabi's (for sushi lovers) -Wild Honey Bistro -AJs Steakhouse -La Baleine Cafe -Fresh Catch Cafe -The Salty Dog Saloon
