Border Crossing at Nogales: Drive south on I-19 from Tucson to the border crossing at Nogales, Arizona. Cross into Mexico at the Nogales-Mariposa Port of Entry. Continue on Mexican Federal Highway 15: After crossing the border, you'll be on Carretera Federal 15 (MEX-15), a four-lane highway. Follow MEX-15 southbound toward Hermosillo and then to San Carlos. Toll Booths Along the Route: There are three primary toll booths on this route: Near Nogales Near Magdalena Near Hermosillo Toll Costs: As of March 2025, the tolls cost 56, 36, and 109 pesos, totaling 201 pesos. We recommend taking the Hermosillo cut off route, which costs an additional 151 pesos. If avoiding the city, the total will be 352 pesos. Please note that tolls are paid in Mexican pesos; U.S. dollars or credit cards are not accepted. Additional Tips: Currency: Ensure you have sufficient Mexican pesos for tolls and other expenses, as many places may not accept U.S. dollars. Also check your credit cards for international fees so you know which one's you can use. Travel Time: The drive typically takes around 4 to 5 hours from the border, depending on traffic and border crossing times. Safety: Stick to toll roads (carreteras de cuota) for a safer and more direct route. Avoid traveling at night. We will be leaving from Tempe on Thursday morning. If anyone wishes to caravan please contact me directly.
