A simple match quickly turned into something that felt like we had known each other forever. Few days later, we were on our first date. We could barely communicate; Sam's Spanish was still a work in progress and my English had almost not existed. We didn’t talk that much but we ended up at a Latin club where the music and a little bit of tequila took over. I danced, and Sam; well, he gave it his best to keep up, it was the cutest thing ever. We laughed the whole night and somehow, without needing all the right words, something just clicked. Since then, we’ve been building a story full of beautiful, unforgettable moments, lazy Sundays watching Manchester United play, and long conversations that usually ended in laughter whether from mispronounced words or our accents. We became each other’s translators and comedians. But not everything was perfect, there were times that tested us, challenges we couldn't pass through without love, we always chose each other. Always stayed. In the good times and the not so good, we were each other’s safe place. Coming from different cultures and languages could’ve made things harder but instead, it brought us closer. Sam didn’t just appreciate my culture; he fell in love with it. He was endlessly patient with my English, always cheering me on, always making me feel understood. And little by little, I helped him grow more confident in Spanish; now he is UN LATINO MAS! He learned how to cook my traditional dishes, played my favorites songs and drink "terere" with me just to bring a little piece of home into our house. Embraced my traditions like they were his own, and with so much heart, introduced me to his. In blending our worlds. Together we create new ones, a mix of what we love the most, something that feels entirely ours. And when I was far from my people, Sam’s family welcomed me with the kind of love that doesn’t ask questions; just opens the door. They became a circle of support and belonging, and I’ll always carry that with me. Sam and I always give each other love freely, without conditions. Everyday learning that being loved deeply feels peaceful, and if things get hard, we can always overcome it hand in hand. Now that we have Lui, our little dog with a big personality, who added even more love to our lives. We are ready to say YES, I DO. This it's a celebration of the union of two families of cultures that come from faraway places, and of a mix of traditions that we've made our own and will carry with us FOREVER.
