Templo de Santo Domingo

This is Oaxaca's most famous church, and the place where we will celebrate our wedding.

Museo Textil de Oaxaca

Textile museum in the historical center. Located in an old XVIII century house.

Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca

The Ethnobotanical Garden of Oaxaca exhibits hundreds of live plant species, all native to Oaxaca. Can only be visited with a guided tour. Guided tours in Spanish from Monday to Saturday at 10:00, 12:00 and 17:00. Guided tours in English on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11:00.

Contemporary Art Museum

Contemporary art museum opened from Wednesday to Monday. Located in an old house built betweenthe XVII and XVIII centuries.

Centro Cultural San Pablo

This building used to be a convent, it now houses a library and has activities and guided tours.

Artisan market

Mainly known for its rugs and craftsmen; but you can find a lot of other items here.

Zona Arqueológica De Monte Albán

The ruins of this ancient Zapotec capital make up one of the most important archaeological sites in all of Latin America. Located about 20 minutes away from the city center by car. There are guided tours that visit this archaeological zone and other places.

Mitla

Mitla is the second most important archeological site in the state of Oaxaca. It is part of the Tlacolula District in the east of the Valles Centrales Region. The town is also known for its handcrafted textiles, especially embroidered pieces and mezcal.

Hierve el Agua

Hierve el Agua is a set of natural rock formations in the Mexican state of Oaxaca that resemble cascades of water. The site is located about 70 km east of Oaxaca.

Arts Center of St. Augustine

Arts center located in an old textile factory outside the city.

Santiago Matatlan

Basically the world capital of mezcal, Santiago Matatlan, there are tour distilleries which ofer tastings. Some tours that visit Mitla and Hierve el Agua also stop here.

San Martín Tilcajete

Tilcajete is historically a Zapotec indigenous community. Mainly known for its wood carvings of real and fantastic animals painted with bright colors and designs, the famous alebrijes.

Teotitlan del Valle

A famous weaving village, located about 25km southeast of Oaxaca, Teotitlán has been renowned for its weaving wares since pre-Hispanic times: the village had to pay tributes of cloth to the Aztecs. Quality today is high, and traditional dyes made from natural sources like indigo, cochineal and moss have been revived (though some weavers still use much cheaper synthetic dyes). Some guided tours algo visit this village.

Mercado 20 de Noviembre

The 20 de Noviembre market has a variety of food stalls where you can sample many Oaxacan specialties, but carnivores flock to the one corridor that's known as "El Pasillo de las Carnes Asadas" (the grilled meats aisle).

Mercado Municipal Martín González

Sunday market, known for its "barbacoa" (meat). About an hour away from Oaxaca.

Restaurante Casa Oaxaca

Very well known restaurant. Its a bit pricey but known to be one of the best in the city. Reservation is needed. Located in a 7-room boutique hotel.

Mexican restaurant with local and fresh ingredients.

Los Danzantes

Very good restaurant, beautiful place... and they produce their own mezcal (Luca's favorite is Alipus Santa Ana).

Nice bar in the city center with drinks and bites. Has live music on fridays and saturday nights.
