Our love story began like a lot of 21st century relationships do … from behind a cell phone. Mikey and I have known of each other since we were in high school, but never crossed paths romantically. He attended college in southern Ohio, while I went more north to the home of the Buckeyes. Although we didn’t talk frequently, Mikey wished me Happy Birthday on Facebook for almost 6 years… he likes to say he was playing the long game. In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, both Mikey and I struggled with finding quality dates and reluctantly turned to Hinge in the hopes of finding someone to connect with. Never doing anything small, Mikey paid for the premium membership and somehow crossed my potential matches even though my perimeter was set for 50 miles from Columbus, and he was in Cincinnati. Seeing his profile, I immediately asked my sister Lexie if I should match with him, as I always thought he was handsome, kind and funny but didn’t want to be weird since we knew each other and I wasn’t sure if I was in the friend zone. Lexie encouraged me to take the risk and the rest is history. Mikey liked my profile as well and we started talking. He didn’t even need my cell phone number because he had it saved still from high school! Our first date lasted over 5 hours and included a brewery visit, frisbee golf, dinner and a movie…. Like I said before Mikey never does anything small. We did long distance for over a year, until Mikey moved up to Columbus and got a job first as a nurse and now a nurse practitioner. We are both forever grateful to have reconnected and can’t wait for the numerous years together ahead of us.
