Question

Should I stay in Medellin or Llanogrande?

Answer

If you are coming just for the wedding weekend, we suggest you stay in Llanogrande. It is conveniently located close to the airport and there are many hotel options. It is also close enough to the city (30 mins) so you can easily taxi into the city for dinner or to explore. If you are coming a week before and want to explore, we suggest you stay in Medellin. It is a wonderful city with a lot to see.

The easiest and most convinient way is to take a cab to and from the venue. Taxis in Colombia are relatively cheap ($30 each way) and are available at all times. Answer

Medellín is known as the City of Eternal Spring. in March you can expect a pleasant climate with average temperatures ranging from 64°F to 81°F (18°C to 27°C). You can expect warm days and cooler evenings, so layering your clothing is a good idea. Rain is possible, so bringing a light rain jacket or umbrella might be wise.

While the wedding itself is on March 15th, we recommend staying a few days before and after the event to fully experience Medellín and the surrounding area. This will give you time to explore the city, relax, and enjoy the local culture. A stay of 4 to 7 days is ideal for most guests.

Question

Anything else I should know about Colombia?

Answer

Spanish is the official language in Colombia. While many people in tourist areas and higher-end establishments speak English, learning a few basic Spanish phrases can enhance your experience. The local currency is the Colombian Peso (COP). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s a good idea to carry some cash for smaller purchases and places that don’t accept cards. Generally, the exchange rate is $1 to 4,000 COP. Colombians are known for their warmth and hospitality. It’s customary to greet with a handshake or a kiss on the cheek (for women), and it’s polite to address people with formal titles. Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory, and small tips are often given for good service (Around 10%).

Question

Getting around Medellin-

Answer

Medellin is very accessible by public transportation including busses, and a metro system but we recommend taxis for people who are new to the city. *Tourist Tip- Don't slam the car/taxi doors. Locals hate this. *Tourist Tip 2 - The metro is safe and very clean. Local people take a lot of pride on their transportation system, specially the metro. Don't eat while in the metro or you will be yelled at. Yellow taxis are regulated by the city and are safe to use but you will likely need local currency and small bills. Yellow taxis can also be ordered in the Uber app. Uber works in the city but is looked down upon. If you order one, someone in your party will have to sit up front with the driver.

Question

Can I drink the tap water?

Answer

Yes! Tap water in Medellin is safe to drink. However, there are plenty of places to buy bottled water for those with sensitive stomachs.

Question

The airport is in an adjacent city called Rio Negro. At the airport, there are official airport white taxis to the city. If you don't speak Spanish, have a photo of your hotel's address for the drive. the cost should be about 110,000 COP (about $28 USD) and take about 30 minutes. A yellow cab can be taken from the city to the airport for your departure.
