The ceremony will take place at Fremont Foundry, promptly at 5 pm, on the rooftop. There is an elevator available on the right-hand side. Reception to follow. The Foundry has two surrounding paid parking lots and free street parking available to accommodate big parties.
In Serbian culture, a kum (godfather) or kuma (godmother) holds a deeply respected and honored role that extends beyond religious ceremonies. Traditionally, the kum (koom) or kuma (kooma) serves as a spiritual guide and chosen family member, often playing a key part in major life events such as baptisms, weddings, and holidays. At a wedding, the kum/kuma is not only a witness but a lifelong supporter of the couple’s union. This role is rooted in trust, love, and enduring connection, symbolizing a bond that is as strong as family by blood.
The brother of the bride will carry a canteen of rakija (rak-eeya), a home-made plum brandy, and will offer you a drink. It is considered a blessing to the couple to accept, but it is not required! Party at your own pace.
Mila and Dani, cousins of the bride and flower girls, will do the honor of pinning every guest in attendance with rosemary wrapped in ribbon- a symbol of remembrance, fidelity, and protection against negative influences. It is tradition to give the flower girls money when they pin you for them to keep (this is any amount and is optional!).
Užičko kolo is mandatory at Serbian weddings which is a simple dance of a few steps while holding hands in a circle. Easy to pick up, so please feel free to join!
