Plane booking

Alaska Airlines has a flight that goes from Anchorage to Los Cabos in one day. I strongly recommend a same-day flight instead of dividing the trip into two days. It will be cheaper in the long run and you will be less tired. When booking, the airport's name is San José del Cabo SJD International Airport. Los Cabos San José del Cabo International Airport- Aduanas/ Customs

Before you land in Mexico the flight attendant will give you the customs form for entering Mexico. Fill one of these out for your party. For the rest of the time you go through customs you will go as a group. When you land in Mexico, the airline will guide you through Aduanas/Customs to check passports right after you get off the plane. Line 1: This line is usually long and sometimes your plane is not the only one that has landed. I strongly recommend booking your seat closest to the front door and rushing to the front. A lot of people get off the plane and go pee or hang out. Just hold it or pee after you’re done. If you’re traveling with a group this will be easier because there is bathrooms in the line area so someone can be in the line while you go pee. Line 2: once you’re done picking up your bags there will be a second line that conducts a random bag check. This is where you give them your customs form. It’s like a roulette, if you press the button and it’s green, you’re good to go. If the button is red, the airport will check your bags for food or any other illegal items. Yea, I don’t recommend bringing drugs. Once you’re past these two lines you’re free to be picked up.

From the Airport to/from La Paz

There are no straight flights to La Paz so you will have to arrive to Los Cabos. La Paz is located about 2 hours away from Los Cabos. There is van transportation from Los Cabos airport to downtown La Paz for $25. Book in advance because these vans go quickly! Once in downtown La Paz, you can take an Uber to your hotel. Should you rent a car I highly recommend that you check with your cell phone provider to see if you have international data for Mexico ( it is included in some plans) or see how to get it. It is much easier to use google maps to get around or have some sort of Garmin/ Tomtom GPS to navigate versus a map. There are two main routes to get to La Paz if driving, one goes through Todos Santos along the Pacific side of Baja and the other goes through Los Barriles and travels along the inner Baja side. We recommend you travel through Todos Santos, it is a much easier drive with a lot fewer switchbacks. If you do take this route you will have to pay a toll of $114 pesos. They also take USD but no credit. You take a ticket at the first stop and pay them at the second similar to a Toll road. Transportation/Transportacion - Sergio

Sergio is a family-friend and also does shuttle/taxi services on the side. His car holds 5 people with some luggage (call to inquire total bag capacity). He can pick up at the airport and drop you off straight to your hotel in La Paz. Trip is about $3,000 pesos depending on destination and gas prices at the time. He is located in San José del Cabo so ask before assuming he’s available in the area. Contact him for accurate pricing and date. Driving/Manejando

Driving in Mexico is safe. Alamo, Avis, and most of the major car rentals are available in Los Cabos ( and La Paz). The car rentals offer free shuttles from the airport to the car rentals (right outside the airport). We do not recommend driving at night because there are a lot of free-range donkeys. Yes, you heard right, donkeys. This includes driving from San José de Cabo to La Paz and La Bastilla to downtown La Paz. The roads are not very well illuminated at night. ------------------------------------------------------------- Conducir en La Paz/ Los Cabos es seguro. Alamo, Avis y la mayoría de los principales alquileres de autos están disponibles en Los Cabos. Tienen transporte gratuito desde el aeropuerto hasta el alquiler de coches (justo fuera del aeropuerto). No recomendamos conducir de noche porque hay muchos burros en libertad. Sí, has oído bien, burros. Esto incluye conducir desde San José de acabo a La Paz y La Bastilla al centro de La Paz. Los caminos no están muy bien iluminados por la noche.

Cash and cards

We recommend to use an ATM to take out cash when you land. A lot of places take cards but not all. If you can, bring at least 2 different types of cards since there are times when big transactions will not go through with some card companies. Cash is always good to have when this happens. Located downtown. Great location for exploring. It's about 30min to La Bastilla. The hotel is right next to a beautiful cathedral and it's a couple of blocks from the Baja Club Hotel and el Malecon (the boardwalk/beach). Hotel Aeropuerto

This is a great hotel option in los Cabos if you arrive in a late flight. The hotel is right outside the airport. Please note there is nothing around the hotel, except the airport. This is not a good hotel to stay for vacation since it’s far from town or any other touristy things. ------------------------------- Esta es una gran opción de hotel en Los Cabos si llegan o salen trade de un vuelo del aeropuerto de Los Cabos. El hotel está justo fuera del aeropuerto. Tenga en cuenta que no hay nada alrededor del hotel, excepto el aeropuerto.
