Lucky in Love

Love Crossed the Hudson, Now It’s Crossing the Sea

We met in 2020, peak lockdown era. The world felt a little upside down, but somehow (thanks to the hinge algorithm), we found each other. The first week restaurants reopened, Amy (a proud New Jersey girl) crossed the Hudson to meet Ryan, a Dobbs Ferry native, for dinner on the water in Tarrytown. The date lasted for hours and ended with a spontaneous walk across the Tappan Zee Bridge; neither of us wanted it to end. From there, our story unfolded one adventure at a time. We spent weekends escaping to Long Beach Island, cozy cabins in the Catskills, and cities like Boston, Savannah, and Key West. We wandered, explored, and just kept falling more in love along the way. In 2023, we moved in together in Dobbs Ferry, New York. It was a big step, especially for Amy, who had to say goodbye to her beloved New Jersey, but Ryan made the transition an easy yes. That same year, we welcomed Lenny into our lives, a retired seeing eye dog who instantly became our greatest joy. Just like that, two became three. We’ve loved building our life together, one filled with small moments, spontaneous adventures, and lots of laughter. Then, in February 2025, Ryan pulled off the surprise of a lifetime. On a dreamy trip to Costa Rica, with a picture-perfect view of Peninsula Papagayo, he popped the question. Amy was completely caught off guard (she didn’t even have her nails done!), but Ryan came prepared with press-ons and a surprise engagement photo shoot. Months of planning and a whole lot of help from family and friends went into the moment, and somehow, he managed to keep it all a secret. Now, we’re getting ready for our biggest adventure yet: tying the knot at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland. We chose Ireland not just for its beauty, but because of our deep Irish roots. The O’Rourkes hail from County Cavan, and the Moynihans from Castleisland. For both of our families, it will be a true coming home, and we plan to celebrate in Irish fashion, surrounded by the people we love most. We can't wait to celebrate with you!
