We were set up by Thurlow's childhood friend, Tony Jennings, when we were both 17 in January 2014. We didn't meet in person until about two weeks later after texting everyday. Since it was a blind date, we met at Taco Bell with Tony and his girlfriend at the time. I think both of us were nervous because we were both super shy and didn't say much. I was dressed way too nice for Taco Bell, and Thurlow waltzed in wearing a flannel shirt tucked into his jeans with a belt. From the moment I first laid eyes on him, he made me smile, and we have been laughing and eating lots of Taco Bell ever since.
Fast forward four years. We were enjoying the spring day at Vander Mill in Grand Rapids. It was simply a happy, fun day together, and I looked at him and said, "If I could, I would marry you right now." Not part of our original plans for the day, we went ring shopping and found one we both loved. After the back and forth of "Should we do it? Should we wait?", we decided to wait. Waking up the next morning, we both knew what we wanted. Once we went back and bought the ring, Thurlow took me back to where we went sledding on our first date, and he proposed...and I finally said yes! It wasn't a surprise but a decision we made together, and we could not be happier!
