A love story written by God

Two worlds become one

May 2022 · Texas THE BEGINNING Amy drove to Texas for the first time with her best friend Mercy to visit her family (who, for the record, had already been joking that Amy would make a wonderful sister-in-law one day and that there are quite some options with her 6 brothers) Then a man with long flowing hair came walking through the backyard. Mercy's brother Pearce, home to surprise his sisters. It was a casual meet with good conversations on an early summer day. Neither of them could imagine then the story that was about to unfold. Christmas 2022 & Spring break 2023 THE SLOW REALIZATION Christmas brought them together again. Deep conversations, late evenings, the kind of connection that quietly follows you home. Both left thinking about each other. Neither said a word about it. By spring break 2023, Pearce had taken Amy on a horseback ride, something she had dreamed of since she was a little girl. Open land, riding across a field together. It was somewhere in that simple, almost magical moment that Amy first felt it. He was more to her than just simply a friend. And Pearce found he couldn't stop thinking about her either. God was clearly writing a romance. But the two main characters were the last ones to get the memo. May 2023 THE SURRENDER Amy graduated her second year at Charis. Pearce showed up with his whole family to celebrate his sisters graduation. Standing in the middle of all that joy, Amy felt something she could no longer deny. She was going to really miss him. Not casually. Not as a friend. In the way that settles into your chest and refuses to leave. She prayed about it. She asked God to take the feeling away if it wasn't His, but if it was, to make it happen. Then she let go. He had prayed, let go, and was trying to just live because it all looked so impossible and too perfect to be real. But God had other plans. He answered his simple question about where Pearce should take a vacation with a VERY CLEAR direction and plan that fell into place with ease. And in a rare moment of stillness, when Amy-Joy had finally left his thoughts, God brought her back to mind with a plan and with provision for the makings of a special adventure. Summer 2023 · Germany THE ANSWER Amy went back to Germany for the summer. One day during an ordinary shift at the coffee shop she was working at, she looked up, and there was Pearce. In Germany. He had flown across the Atlantic to surprise her, somehow arranged two weeks off work for her, and came prepared with a backup plan in case she didn't feel the same. Brave enough to cross an ocean. Humble enough to prepare for rejection. She thought she was dreaming for several days before realizing that this is really happening. Amy's parents were a little overwhelmed by the American who had materialised in their daughter's life with a heart full of intentions. But they came around ;) God had written them into the story too. They just needed a chapter to catch up. When Pearce returned to Texas, he found that his family wasn't surprised in the least that he liked the girl. In fact, they had been praying for both of them in the background all along because they had already seen the spark that Pearce and Amy-Joy each thought they were keeping secret. May 14, 2024 → May 9, 2026 THE YES — AND THE YES AGAIN After a year of growing as genuine friends during Amy's third year at Charis and Pearce, moving from Texas to Colorado, they made it official on May 14th, 2024. Two years after the backyard visit. On May 9th, 2026, Pearce took Amy to the top of Pikes Peak. 14,115 feet, thin air, infinite sky, on top of the world. He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him (in German), and the rest of the story is still being written. A girl from Germany. A boy from Texas. Two worlds and a story only God could have written. He did. And it is very, very good. "Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." — Proverbs 19:21
