Getting to Vashon
If you’re flying in from out of state, Seattle-Tacoma (SeaTac) International is the closest airport to Vashon Island. From there, you can take a rental car, public transit, or arrange to carpool with someone to one of two ferry terminals to catch a ferry to Vashon Island. There may be cheaper airfares flying into other airports in the region, but they would require much more driving time to get to the ferries going to Vashon. Everyone’s travel plans will differ, with some folks planning longer trips to explore the region and some flying in just for the wedding. We’ll try to offer as much info here to help you plan your trip, but please reach out if you need support. We want to make sure that everyone who wants to be at the wedding can, and we may have some creative ways to make it more affordable, so please don’t hesitate to reach out! No matter where you’re coming from, you’ll need to take a short but delightful ferry ride from either the West Seattle Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal, or Point Defiance Terminal in Tacoma. Depending on which ferry you take and the age of the passengers, the rides range from 15 to 20 minutes long, and cost between ~ $16 - 25 for a car and driver, and ~ $4 - 8 for any additional passengers in the car, or adult walk-on passengers. All tickets are round trip. Check exact ferry schedules closer to the wedding date. If you are staying off island, make sure to give yourself plenty of time, because ferry schedules can change at the last minute (running late or canceled ferries). If you plan to go directly to the ceremony, it’s good to plan on taking the ferry before the one that would get you to the wedding on time, just in case!

If you do not plan to rent a car or carpool while you are visiting for the wedding, you are in luck because public transit options are great throughout the Puget Sound metropolitan area. TURO
Turo is another, often more affordable option for renting a car. Turo connects you to car owners who rent their cars out directly which cuts out the rental car company and the mark up that comes along with it. Here is a link to Turo from the SeaTac airport. Getting around on Vashon Island
We’re still figuring out the best way to support folks who will not have their own transportation on the island, so please reach out if that’s you. We can help arrange opportunities to carpool with other wedding guests and public transit on the island is easy and accessible!
House Or Rental
LODGING
While we hope as many guests as possible will be able to find lodging on the island, staying in Olympia, Tacoma or Seattle are all reasonable options. The ferries run frequently, and the rides are short enough that you don’t need to stay on the island to attend the wedding. There are no traditional hotels/motels on Vashon Island, so you’ll find most of the options for on-island lodging through Airbnb and VRBO (links below). Feel free to expand your search radius on each of these sites for rental options off-island, as well. For convenient locations close to the ferry terminals, search for rentals in West Seattle or near Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. We’ve also included links to hotels that are off-island, close to each of the ferry terminals. Booking a hotel near the SeaTac Airport is another option. There are free shuttles that will take you from the SeaTac Airport to neighboring hotels and back to the airport. Places book up quickly, especially on Vashon Island, so we recommend booking ASAP.
